UBC Philosophy Welcomes Edward Slingerland



We are excited to announce that Edward Slingerland III, currently a Professor of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia and Director of the Database of Religious History, will be joining the Philosophy Department starting July 2021.

Professor Slingerland is a world renown scholar in Chinese Philosophy, particularly in the Warring States period (5th-3rd c. B.C.E.). His expertise also extends to religious studies (comparative religion, cognitive science and evolution of religion), cognitive linguistics (blending and conceptual metaphor theory), ethics (virtue ethics, moral psychology), evolutionary psychology, the relationship between the humanities and the natural sciences, and the classical Chinese language.
