Scholarships
James Ruggles Macdonell Memorial Scholarship
As a memorial to James Ruggles Macdonell, an honours graduate in philosophy in the Class of 1966, who died accidentally in his graduating year, his family and friends have endowed a scholarship of $1,450 to be awarded to a promising honours student who is entering his or her final undergraduate year in philosophy. The scholarship is awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Philosophy in early September.

Prizes
David Bolocan Memorial Prize
A prize of $100 endowed by Mr. J. L. Bolocan, Edmonton, Alberta, in memory of his son David is awarded to a student in the final year in the Faculty of Arts who is regarded by the Department of Philosophy as the outstanding student in the graduating year. The prize is awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Philosophy in early May.

Mahatma Gandhi Peace Prize
A prize of $500 is offered by Dr. and Mrs. D.P. Goel on behalf of their late sister-in-law Mrs. Laj D. Goel. The prize is awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Philosophy in early May to an outstanding graduating student majoring in Philosophy.

Adam Morton Essay Prize
A prize of $100 (UBC Bookstore gift card) is awarded to the student who wrote the best paper from a 300-level Philosophy course in the current academic year. Essays are nominated by course instructors with students' permission. The award winner is announced during the second last week of May.

David Ricardo Essay Prize
Funded by a Vancouver-based lawyer who is a direct descendant of David Ricardo, this essay prize of $100 (UBC Bookstore gift card) is awarded each year to the best essay in Professor Margaret Schabas' course, PHIL 363/ECON 319 History and Philosophy of Economics from Ricardo to Keynes. The award winner is announced in late April.
