Go Global with UBC Philosophy and Sociology in Guatemala

Can Philosophers do Field Work?

Come and find out! Study Power and Oppression and Theories of Civil Society on location in rural Guatemala with Professors Sylvia Berryman (Philosophy) and Thomas Kemple (Sociology). Earn six credits of upper-level Arts coursework (Philosophy 335, Sociology 430), while experiencing the impacts of poverty and globalization firsthand through a UBC Go Global Seminar. Open to majors and honours students in philosophy, sociology, and closely-related disciplines. This is your opportunity to complement social theory coursework with intensive experiential learning about the realities of a significantly poorer society. Eligible students will receive ARA funding to cover 70-100% of the program fee and airfare. Please click here to see more information.

Following a successful run of this program in the summer of 2018, we hope to return to Guatemala with Go Global in 2021. Watch this space for further updates.
